I’ve been a full-time wedding and elopement photographer for 3 years. At this point, I’ve collected a few things that I wish I’d found sooner! This is a list of gear, electronics, supplies, and camping equipment that have helped me in my business and made my life easier. I hope they help you too! Click the image to view the link.
Waterproof Camera Cover
As a photographer, you should be prepared to protect your gear in any weather! My waterproof camera cover came in handy just last week when it downpoured for hours at one of my weddings. This isn’t the exact one I have, but it’s pretty dang close.
Changing Tent
Every single photographer needs a changing tent. My clients and I hike for a lot of our sessions, so bringing the tent allows them to change once we get to our destination. It’s also super helpful for outfit changes halfway through shoots.
128GB 170 mb/s SD Card
SanDisk 170/mb SD cards are the fastest and most reliable. I have a mix of 128gb and 64gb.
SanDisk Portable SSD
This is the best hard drive for traveling. It’s so small and less likely to corrupt.
Lacie Hard Drives
Lacie hard drives are the way to go. I have 4 of the 2 TB and 2 of the 5TB.
Nanuk 935 Case
This case is cheaper than Pelican and just as amazing. This is the exact one I have. It’s great for traveling and protects all my gear.
VILTROX LED Video Light
Whether you do photography or videography, it’s always great to have a video light on hand. This is the one I use for send-offs at weddings.
Godox Flash
This is the flash that I use and I couldn’t recommend it more! The battery lasts forever and it’s so reliable.
Bride Hanger
The little things make a big difference in your photos, and hanger choice is the last thing on your bride’s mind. I recommend keeping this wooden hanger handy because it photographs so well for dress photos.
Ring Box
I love having this on hand for flat lays. There’s lots of different colors too.
Chiffon Ribbon
Another great way to uplevel your flat lay game. Also lost of colors to choose from.
Prism
I keep this prism in my fanny pack at shoots and use it to get artsy shots.
Fractal Filters
Handheld prisms for more artsy photos. I don’t have these exact ones, but I know lots of people who do and I want them!
SD Card Adapter
We all know how annoying it is that Apple laptops don’t have an SD port. So this is the SD card adapter I use for my laptop. It’s my favorite because the ones with cords get shorts and will disconnect all the time, but this one is great.
Fanny Pack
I wear this fanny pack to every session/wedding. I love it because the price is low, but it’s so durable. There’s lots of colors, but I like black because it blends in with what I wear to weddings. Having a fanny pack allows me to keep extra batteries and SD cards on me at all times without having to wear my heavy backpack all day.
Fujifilm 200
For my film lovers. This is a great, versatile film and the price is really affordable. If you’re just learning how to shoot film, I recommend this be your first roll!
Portra 400
Portra is a little more on the expensive side, but it’s one of the most popular types of film to use.
Coleman LED Lantern and D Batteries
These next few items are for my fellow elopement photographers who find themselves camping for sessions and elopements a lot. This lantern is amazing and a must-have. I’ve included the link to the batteries as well.
Car Privacy Window Shades
I have a Subaru, so I love to car camp when I can. These privacy window shades block out light and give me privacy when I’m camping.
Coleman Camping Pad
This self-inflating camping pad is amazing and such high quality.
Mesh Car Window Curtains
These are great because you can roll your windows down, get some fresh air, and not be too hot – all while keeping the bugs out.
